“Let us eat some fruits”

“Let us eat some fruits!”

Kids: “No,not now. I am playing. I don’t want to eat anything now.”

Elderly: “No,my stomach is full. I cannot eat so much ! Later I will eat.”

Me: “Okay !”

To Kids: “Will you play that game with me ? How about doing craft this week? What do you want to do ?”
(Takes the fruit from my hand or I put it in their mouth and they start thinking. Waits to finish it and excited to talk.)

To Elderly: “Please tell me more about when you were young. How our family was and what you all did ?”
(Takes the fruit from my hand or I put it in their mouth and they start thinking. Waits to finish and excited to share !)

Oh I love the Kids !
Oh I love the Elderly !

The Joy and Blessing of Being Young, of Interacting with both Age Groups , of Learning from both ! Love it !

#grateful #youth #blessing #reflection

I remember stories of people I met,in a very renowned old age home I visited few years back. It is so well maintained by sisters. Even then the inmates long for their own children, for their love and companionship. The Stories brought tears to my eyes. How can we do this to them !

It is so sad that in so many cases, grandparents are treated badly, looked upon as burden,as people who interfere in our lives, made to stay alone in their old age, ignored or ill-treated,sometimes left in old age homes.

I believe our grandparents should be given more love, more care and attention than we normally do. Not because we want them to “babysit” our kids or we “want their money or property” or “want them to help out in our housework.”

We must give them our love, care and attention:
-Because they are our parents parents (think about the status of parents and our duties to them),
-Because we are their children and when we were small,irritating,dirty,ill-mannered,incapable-they took care of us,gave us love and everything that we are and we have and have become today.

And now that we have it all,we tend to neglect,to forget,to become distant from them and start treating them selfishly,as a means to get what we want,to get our selfish needs met, Why ?

Why do we forget that one day we will also grow old? That one day we will long for that same love, for the same respect and care from our own children. And maybe if we have not done our duty to our elderly, maybe the cycle may repeat and our children will do the same to us when we become elderly.

When you are young-there will be times when you will be doing “your thing” and they would want help or your time or company or they want to tell you something. Yes,you are “busy”,you need “space”,you need “alone time”, you have your “own work and duties” but there is a way-to convey,to tell,to express, that does not hurt them.

As they grow old, they may become more sensitive, they may get hurt easily or start crying or get angry for small things or say something you may not like but again remember what you will gain if you are patient and a little more kind.

What will you gain ? Reward from God,their prayer, love, affection (even they may not express all the time but we tend to create a special place in their heart). Above all,be good and kind to them because you are a human being who knows about being human too,to everyone around you.

If you have an elderly person in your family, remember they are the jewels, the treasures, the guide books, the most important trainers, story tellers, advisors and counsellors.

My dad had a very close and strong relationship with his grandparents. Alhamdulillah,I feel blessed to have the same with both my maternal and paternal grandparents (my nana-may Allah bless his soul passed away this month). May God guide us and grant us wisdom to fulfill our duties towards them and be kind to all elderly (not just on their face but also behind their backs.) Ameen

Smartphone and Smart Kids

Exactly ! Let us teach children to clean up their own mess,to help out their parents especially mothers with housework,to do their own work as much as possible or atleast to involve them instead of saying,
“I don’t want people to think I can’t afford a maid.” or
“Why will my children do work? I’m there to do that.” or
“They must be tired after school or tuitions. They need rest.”

Letting them do their own work or involving them in the work will:
-Teach them important Skills in Life-cooperation,team work, leadership, confidence, equality, unity and others.
-Help them to understand how much effort and time is involved and to appreciate their parents efforts.
-When they’ll have to clean up the mess, they will have the tendency to create less mess.
-Rest is necessary. Using smart phones or gadgets for a long time will make them more lazy and can cause harm. There must be a time limit to play and have fun this way. By helping out, they are doing physical exercise which will benefit them more.

Yearning for Hajj

I yearn for hajj each year. May Allah fulfill my dream! I am grateful to Allah for granting me the opportunity twice for umrah with family but hajj is really special .May Allah forgive our sins and accept our efforts and worship! Aameen ! Allahu Akbar !

Ya Allah,I yearn to see, feel and be inspired by your Beautiful Cities of Makkah and Madinah, by the pilgrims from diverse backgrounds, nations and speaking different languages but bowing to the same One God! I yearn to have that energy and enthusiasm again to rush to the Masjid for Salah, the excitement to do wudhu in Haram and help others do the same by pressing the taps,to drink zamzam and serve other strangers to receive a smile, thank you or prayer, sometimes the pat or hug!

I yearn to do tawwaf and saee with so many people around me doing the same, watching the kids excited and running faster, the slow or struggling walk of the ill or the elderly-all trying to do their best to earn the pleasure of their Rabb. The feeling, the experience and the transformation each time-I miss your House, my Lord. Please call me again, soon.

The Shortest Talk I gave on Teacher’s Day

The Shortest Talk I gave on Teacher’s Day+Fresher’s Day+Farewell Party ! (As an Ex-Student)

A very Good Afternoon to my Dearest Teachers and my Dear Friends.

You see the person standing and speaking in front of you. Who is she?
I’ll speak for myself.

I am Madiha. I am who God,my Parents and my Teachers have made me.

Teachers-the wonderful souls who make an impact on our lives.
A teacher who made such a deep impact and left a mark on my life,my soul is none other than I.S.Ma’am. One of the most Remarkable Teachers, Human Beings, Inspirations and Role Models for me.

Along with Botany,I.S.Ma’am taught me 3 great life lessons that I remember till today.

1.When we enter college, we have a set of Ideas,Dreams, Goals and Aspirations and by the time we leave,it undergoes a big transformation. For many, the aim is Education for Career but I.S.Ma’am taught me that Education is for Life. What you learn in this School, you must apply in the School of Life and it must make deep sense to you.

When Ma’am taught me Photosynthesis, I thought about Social Change. So studying Photosynthesis led me to developing a theory for Social Change. This I have described in detail in my book.(I explained it briefly there)

2.Character and Career in relation to Success.
Ma’am told me focus and work harder to build a Good Character and a Great Career will build up too. But if you think of working harder on building a Great Career and think,” Oh,I will think about Good Character when I grow old -then my friends,it won’t work,it won’t happen.”

What’s the point of Professional Success when there is no Personal Success,no Satisfaction?

3.We may all Enter College with the same aim but when we leave College and Enter Life,we may have different paths, different dreams, aspirations and goals.

This is what Ma’am had told me,”Your aim in life is not to have the same journey as your Batchmates, Juniors or Seniors. Your aim must be to Live and Love your own unique journey. Each of us have a unique purpose to fulfill in life and your focus must be to work and to realize your full potential.”

In the beginning I asked you,”Who am I?”
I am who God,my Parents and my Teachers have made me.

I’m working hard not to find the Man of my Dreams but to Become the Woman of my Dreams.
Yes,I am who I Choose to Be.
I took the Road I wanted to Travel.
I took the Road less Travelled by and that has made all the Difference.

Thank you I.S.Ma’am for Making a Difference,
Thank you Ma’am for Being the Difference!

They won’t let you fly !

The Society won’t give you Wings or let you Fly because they are afraid and they know you’ll Soar much Higher above them and they can’t Cage you !

Can you think of another “Maybe” statement?

Are you Serving to Serve or to be Served in return?

Don’t serve your parents and grandparents well so that you may have a greater share of their wealth or inheritance.

Serve your parents and grandparents well so that you may have a greater share of their love, affection and prayers,so that you can be closer to God and earn His greater Pleasure.

If you have parents and grandparents at home, take care of them, serve them well before you go out to serve humanity. Let us not neglect our own family, our own elders, our loved ones, people in our own world while we go out and serve the rest of the world.

Remember the greatest change you can bring is by being the most loving person to your own kind. For the other people, you can put up a good show of affection for a short period of time but to your own,to put it up,day in and day out and for a longer time is the real challenge that will lead to real change.

Take care and Take Care of your Family even if you don’t get to listen to all the appreciation, words of praise you wanted to hear.
Do good. Do it anyway!
Do it because you Care.
And because the World needs a Caring Soul like you!

That’s what my Dad and Mom always Say and Show! 🙂
