Problems arise when we expect from people.
I will give few examples of that at different levels and explain,in sha Allah.
You share good messages on facebook and other sites and you keep checking, how many people liked it. If you think its a good message and you dont get the response you wanted.. It makes you sad. You might stop sharing or writing.
Between many spouses too..this is seen. In some cases it is the wife,in some cases, the husband and in some cases both. One expects something from the other and if the other cant fulfill the expectations, there are fights,arguments..various issues.
The wife could be working all day at home and when the husband returns she expects him to praise, appreciate and acknowledge. The husband returns tired after the whole days work and he expects the wife to praise, appreciate, acknowledge. Sometimes,it is possibile but to expect that on a daily basis is not practical.
In workplace, you might be hard working and doing a good job and you may not be appreciated as much as you expected.
And we see many more cases on a regular basis.
The problem is we expect from people. The thing is we are humans and we err. We judge based on results and what is visible.
Lets make it simple. Solution : Islam.
When you put in the effort to think, write, speak and share the good with others..let your intention be to Please Allah,to benefit people for His Sake.
When you are working hard all day to earn or looking after the house..let your intention be to Please Allah,to be good to your family and to take care of them,to provide for them and to benefit them for the Sake of Allah.
When you work hard and do a good job or put in that extra bit than the rest..let your intention be to Please Allah and to benefit the people for His Sake.
Allah is Great ! He is Great ! He knows what is in our hearts and what we reveal and what we conceal.
Allah judges us based on our intentions and efforts, not the final result. The world judges based on ultimate result..
Allah knows how hard you tried, the sacrifices you made, the pain and hardships you suffered from.
Allah knows you had sleepless nights, tears flowing, heartaches, the bodyaches, the headaches.. He knows that you kept quiet and controlled yourself instead of yelling. He knows you had done that extra to see your spouse happy.
He knows it all ! Allah is All-Knowing,All-Aware ! Allah is Great !
Work hard..Strive to earn His Pleasure.
Allah is ash-Shakoor,the Most Appreciative.
Al-Ghazali tells us that ash-Shakoor is “the one who rewards the practice of a few pious deeds many-fold, and in response to the action of a few days, gives limitless happiness in the life to come. The one who rewards a good deed many-fold is said to be grateful for that deed, while whoever commends the one who does a good deed is also said to be grateful. Yet if you consider the multiplication factor in reward, only God—great and glorious—is absolutely grateful because His multiplication of the reward is unrestricted and unlimited; for there is no end to the happiness of Paradise.”
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“That He may give them in full their rewards and increase for them of His bounty. Indeed, He is Forgiving and Appreciative.”
“…And whoever commits a good deed — We will increase for him good therein. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Appreciative.”
“Do not belittle any good deed, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face.”
Allah even appreciates our intention. The Prophet pbuh describes two men: one man whom Allah has bestowed upon wealth and knowledge, and he acts upon that knowledge and gives from his wealth; and another man whom Allah has given knowledge but no wealth, and that man says, “If I had the wealth he had, I would do the same”. The Prophet pbuh said “And they are rewarded the same”.
Go out of your way to help someone..could be your family member, friend, colleagues, juniors, seniors, strangers and even animals… not expecting anything in return, and someone along the road will do that for you as a reward from Allah.
Nothing we ever do is lost.
Some of us hesitate when it comes to doing good.‘I am such a sinner!’ We may think, ‘Will Allah really appreciate the pathetic deeds that I do when I commit such horribly bad deeds?’
“Surely our Lord is indeed Ever-Forgiving, Appreciative.”
“He is most forgiving, most appreciative.” (Qur’an, 35:30).
This gives us the reassurance that even if we commit sinful deeds, we can return to Allah and He will,in sha Allah(God willing) forgive us, while rewarding us for the good.
Many of us crave recognition. We do good in secret and a part of us wishes that the person we have done good for knows. Or at other times, we may intend to do something good but everything goes wrong—and no one knew that your intention was to do good.
Allah tells us,
“And ever is Allah Appreciative and Knowing.”
Allah rewards and appreciates the things that people may overlook.
Sometimes Allah postpones the signs of His appreciation and this is to build sincerity.
Are you going to give up because you don’t see the immediate fruits?
Do it for Allah because you know He is ash-Shakoor in this life and the next, and ask Him to grant you beautiful patience.
Remember that the Prophet pbuh was kind and forbearing and was not treated the same in Makkah, but Allah gave him great companions and finally refuge in Madinah.
May Allah enable us to be thankful and appreciative servants of the Most-Appreciative. Ameen.
