Effort of mothers who are not that educated

It is beautiful to see the effort that mothers put in to educate their children,ma sha Allah..even though they might not be that educated.
May Allah bless the mothers and the children. Ameen

Muslim youth,what’s your goal ?

I have seen this very often. When a Muslim youth is asked:

“What is your goal ? What is your mission in life ? What is your purpose ?”

For so many, the reply is: “I GUESS I will do this and then maybe that.” or “Well,I want to do this but I dont think I can.” or “Why worry ? Aray kuch na kuch to ban jayenge !” or ” Abhi to yeh kar rahe hai, baad mein dekha jayega” and so on.

(I will be addressing the sisters views/story/perspective as I have interacted with many sisters in school, college and elsewhere and discussed this,Alhamdulillah.)

There are sisters who are pursuing engineering but dont know what to do next. There are sisters who love studying about food, cooking and are taking up geography or english. There are sisters who love public speaking, social work, writing but they studied extensive science subjects.

There are so many talented, passionate, determined sisters who want to do so much but they lack a purpose..a goal in life. They dont have a vision. And so they end up where it doesnt make sense what to do or they are fed up or they lose hope or consider themselves worthless or they waste time and become very unproductive youth. We as an Ummah cant afford that our Muslim youth become unproductive or purposeless ! May Allah protect us.

I was one such youth till bsc 2nd year but Alhamdulillah, the khutbahs I kept hearing and the discussions I had,the articles I read, the circumstances made me think..forced me to think.. What do I really want ? I reflected on my past and made an analysis of what I enjoyed, what made me happy, what I should be doing with what Allah has blessed me with, how I can serve the Ummah etc.

Looking back,I realized that the moments that made me happy and that I enjoyed were during sports day-organizing and practising marching and Cricket in groups, school fetes, college and school fests, organizing events-fundraisers,health camps, charity drives, volunteering in social causes-old age homes, orphanages, islamic school events, speaking on muslim youth and women topics, writing on daily events and youth and women issues from an Islamic perspective, dawah in school and college campus..

I realized that I took up Botany because I loved Biology more than any other subject and thats it.
I didnt see myself 3 to 5 years later and what I would do then and where I would end up or it would lead to. A choice without vision.

With time as I began to get involved in different things, the Botany classes wouldnt permit me to take part. Very interesting subject,no doubt but extensive.

The time and energy that I wanted to give to the work I loved.. I couldnt because I would get tired-9 am to 5 pm.

At the end of 3rd year,I was upset. I spoke to the seniormost professor of my department,Dr.Illora Sen (I would do Dawah to her and gave her dawah material and my Burooj project,Creation ? Evolution ? Or Both ? ) and told her my issue. She gave me a beautiful advise ! Alhamdulillah.

I told her,”Ma’am,by the mid of 2nd year,I realized my heart was attached to and yearning for something else.”

I told her that I enjoyed the panel and group discussions, organizing and hosting events more.
I told her,”I didnt like memorizing rather I wanted to relate botany with us humans and our life. I dont want to study it the way everyone does. It can be so boring that way.”

I shared my reflections on- Photosynthesis and social change with her. She was sharing her reflections with me.

She told me,”Madiha, you know what we do in life, what we study is never a waste if you get the essence of it. In your case, the essence of Botany. The world will see it in one way. You see it your way. Connect things and the world will make sense. Think and reflect. What you learn from it make it a part of your life and to enrich yourself as a human being.God blesses each one with a different set of talents and qualities. Dont waste it. What you want is not something easy nor will there be much support but never mind. Dare to be different. Stand out from the crowd. With the God touch anything is possible. Have faith.”

She told me about my flaws and my good points and advised me on how to go about it and become productive.

The last 1 year, the circumstances, the conversations, the Dawah experiences, the challenges, the events, the people I met.. Alhamdulillah changed me quite a lot. Allah made it possible.

Earlier, the human in me would rebel, protest and raise voice against everything and anything at home or outside. With time, the Muslim in me made me see people and my self as a human who errs,as a slave of Allah, who is need of Him and must bow before Him and His Commands to stand up against evil and the world.

The Muslim in me reminded me of the incidents of the past, what I heard in Khutbahs or what I learnt in Burooj or read in Quran and hadith.. That helped me deal with things atleast better than I would do before. That was motivation, encouragement,Alhamdulillah.

Every time I saw something that made me angry,upset,disheartened..the Muslim in me told me,
“Allah has made you a Muslim. You have a duty towards humanity. If you cant change the world for the better then the least is change yourself for the better. People will break your heart, put barriers and make life difficult..forgive them and move on as a positive person. Your Rabb is watching and He Knows. Let Him deal with them. You do your work and keep striving so that you can tell Allah,Ya Rabb,I tried my best. The rest wasnt in my control. You are a Muslim youth. The Muslim Youth in the past had a vision and a mission and they brought change.”

Dear sisters and brothers,to many it would seem like I am bragging but Allah knows I am not. I said what happened. May Allah Forgive me for my sins. Ameen. In the past,I have always tried to share my stories with people as we all learn from each others experiences and mistakes and it could help others.

May Allah make me and all the Muslim Youth.. Youth with a vision and a mission. May Allah make us productive and motivated for His Sake. May Allah make us role models and the winds of change. Ameen

Brothers turning into enemies

It is indeed sad to see brothers who were playmates, best friends and shared a good relationship in childhood to see them developing jealousy, hatredand negative emotions towards each other when they grow older.
And that too over insignificant, materialistic things. May Allah increase love among brothers, give them a big heart ,the ability to forgive and to have a sense of purpose and vision so that they dont get distracted by petty things. Ameen

For many,Ramadan is all about food ! I can see it on the streets and around me !
It seems we eat full during Suhoor time so that we dont feel hungry during the day and then again eat full during Iftar time coz we have been hungry all day !
How does that help ?
Allahu Akbar !

Live for Allah

Live for Allah. Live for the Sake of Allah. Live to worship Allah,to earn the Pleasure of Allah. Live to earn Jannah.

*If you do that then it wont matter if people are selfish. It wont matter if they hurt you, abuse you, take advantage of you.
It wont matter if people dont appreciate your efforts. It wont matter if your expectations of others or yourself are not fulfilled. It wont matter if people dont return your favours. It wont matter if you are the only one standing up for the truth and the rest are quiet. It wont matter if after all the hard work, you are criticized only for mistakes and the hard work, the good you did was not brought to light.
It wont matter if you dont get what you desired.

Islam is indeed beautiful. It is a way of life, truly !

*In this journey of worldly life, there are ups and downs..the turbulent times and the good times.

Islam helps us to be stable individuals who are not extremely overwhelmed, depressed, hurt during calamities and not even extremely happy and excited during good times that we become arrogant or forget Allah or do the haram when partying/celebrating etc.

Alhamdulillah,for being a Muslim. Alhamdulillah,for Islam.

Reminds me of the hadith,Strange is the case of the believer..during bad times he is patient (sabr) and during good times he is grateful (shukr) and so he is rewarded for both.

*Our Prophet Muhammad pbuh had lived and showed us how Islam is perfect and a way of life.

*Few incidents of the past,I often think about are:

1)In Makkah,Muslims were few in number and even during battles, inspite of the small number, victory belonged to us. Allah made His Deen victorious.

2)Leaders today misuse power. They spend the wealth and use the power for selfish motives. What happens to the people under them is not their concern ! Whether people live or die, whether they suffer or are happy, whether the people are becoming better or worse.. No worries nothing ! As long as their bank balance increases, their social status should be intact.

I am amazed at how Allah blessed our prophet Muhammad pbuh with such character and made him a role model for us.

He was concerned about the people’s welfare, their personal growth and development and we see the result of this. There was a positive change. There emerged people like Abu Bakr r.a,Umar r.a,Uthman r.a,Ali r.a,Musab ibn Umair,Saad ibn Waqqas,Khalid bin Waleed and others.

When we read about the Sahabahs in details we will be amazed.

3)A sahabi had dark skin and he wished to marry. So,he went to Prophet Muhammad pbuh. Prophet pbuh told him to go and ask for the hand of the daughter of a well known powerful leader.

When the Sahabi goes and asks the father..the father is shocked and boasts about his daughters beauty. The Sahabi mentions that prophet pbuh had sent him. The father tells him to go away. The daughter overhears and tells him to stop. She said if prophet pbuh had sent the Sahabi, she was willing to marry. He was elated.

He went to the Messenger of Allah pbuh and informed him. He was told to go and take 200 dirhams from 2 sahabis. Then he goes to buy gifts for his future wife, who is beautiful.

When he goes to shop,he hears the announcement and the call for Jihad was made. He bought a sword and a horse instead of gifts and went to fight. He covered his face as he was afraid that prophet pbuh would tell him something. He fought bravely and was martyred. Prophet pbuh then informed the other Sahabahs what Allah revealed about the fate of this Sahabi ! Allahu Akbar !

4)Musab ibn Umair,a young Sahabi, who before embracing Islam was a flamboyant youth, the most desired young man,his mother was a rich and powerful lady. He gave up everything for the Sake of Allah.

This young sahabi,he dedicated his life to serve Allah and nothing mattered to him. Allah was his priority. He was sent by Prophet pbuh to do Dawah and Ma sha Allah,he brought people to Islam.

May Allah make us focused individuals. May Allah make us people with a vision and a mission, people with purpose.

Quran,Surah Al-An’am ,

“Say (O Muhammad SAW: “Verily, my Salât (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamîn (mankind, jinns and all that exists). ”

May Allah make us of those who pray and say and live that way. Ameen

Live Islam and not just talk about it

As time passes by,I realize that when we only talk about Islam,it might not be effective Dawah…

But when we represent Islam..when Islam is reflected in our thinking, our actions,reactions,behaviour..in our dealings with people.. That can prove to be effective,it can make them think differently,in sha Allah.

That is how our Prophet Muhammad pbuh was and how the Sahabahs were. Their character, their thinking, their dealing with people-it reflected Islam and that is why they could make a difference, they could bring a change !

We need to ask ourselves-Are we an asset to this Deen ?Do our actions bring people towards Islam or take them away from Islam?

If we want to bring change,we have to be the change ! We have to practise Islam and make it an integral part of our lives.

Remember,my dear sisters and brothers,Islam is not just a religion or a philosophy .. It is a Way of Life !

Allah has sent the Quran-the Book of Guidance. Allah has sent Prophet Muhammad pbuh-a role model for us to follow.

We are not left alone, not left astray. We have Islam!

Let us make a sincere effort and strive to live the Islamic Way.. In sha Allah,we will then be unique individuals..we will then be the change..we will then bring the change !

We will then have a clear sense of purpose..we will have a clear vision..we will then be able to channelize our resources in the right way and head towards a destiny,in sha Allah !

May Allah Help us to live a life of purpose. May Allah make us focused individuals, motivated for His Sake. May Allah Help us to live like a true slave of His,to obey Him and His Messenger. May Allah make us true representatives, standard bearers of Islam. Ameen.

Thoughts !

Sometimes criticism or a blow is necessary to bring us back on track.

Let us thank Allah for them.

For a person who believes in Allah, has faith in Him and works hard..anything is possible.
Allah is Great. Allah makes way where there seems to be no way !
Allahu Akbar !

Dress Smart and Modest. Dress like a Muslim.

Ignorance and Arrogance is very dangerous. Both will in the end lead to your own destruction.

Quotes by me

Let Akhirah be the priority and Duniya a means to invest in the Akhirah !

Do not desire to be a person of Duniya alone. Desire and strive to be a person of Akhirah and you will get sucess in Duniya and Akhirah,in sha Allah !

Knowing is not enough. You have to act then only will you benefit yourself and the people around,in sha Allah !

Muslim,the trendsetter

A Muslim is meant to be unique..meant to be different.

He should stand out wherever he goes. He should bring change wherever he goes. He should be the winds of change.

He should be an asset to the school, college, workplace, family, community, groups, world.

A Muslim is meant to be a trendsetter.. He should set the trend and others would follow. His footsteps should be a guide for others. His thoughts and words a source of inspiration and encouragement for others.

When he walks in,there should be a change…positive vibes..where people feel comfortable and they know that there is someone who is genuine and cares, who will give the best and sincere advise, who will encourage..motivate..inspire !

A Muslim is one who should take initiatives to bring positive change either by sharing his ideas or by working hard and trying to make a difference at whatever level possible.

Islam is a unique religion. Muslims are meant to be unique.

Our character, our personality, our behaviour, our thoughts should be such that others should be able to see the reflection of Islam in us.

A story (I had heard in a khutbah) comes to mind. There was a Sahabi who had a shop in the street. A Christian comes to buy wheat.

The Sahabi said he had the wheat but there was a shop,a Christian’s shop near his shop..and he should buy from there because that man hadnt got sale that day and he himself had enough sale to feed his family.

That Christian man goes and then he comes back to the Sahabi’s shop. The Sahabi asked if he got what he wanted. The Christian man said yes but there is something else I want and I want to know more about it…the Eeman !

Subhanallah !

May Allah make us a source of inspiration for others. May Allah make us unique and instil in our hearts love for His Deen. May Allah make Islam a part of our character, our personality, our thoughts, words and actions. Ameen

Let it be a comma but never a full stop

Very often we plan big things and we work hard to achieve them. Sometimes,we dont get the result we wanted.

I was a Botany Honours student and our classes would be from 9:45 am to 4:15 pm for 2 years and in 3rd year 10 am to 4:45 or 5 pm.. Tiring and hectic but enjoyable,Alhamdulillah.

I was into extra curricular activies in both schools,Alhamdulillah. In high school..even with pure science subjects..we would participate in and organize events-fetes,social programmes like we care (for old age homes),exhibitions, inter house events…also school fests.

Naturally, when I joined college,I wanted to do all that. Our teachers had told us that we wont get time for all that and our subject demands attention, energy so we should have limited extra curricular activity.

I enjoy studying E.V.E and as an Ecology and JPIC member,I had participated in events…like spreading awareness, skits, posters etc. So,I requested my teachers in 1st year to let me organize Earth Day-a skit and powerpoint, make badges and we invite an eminent professor. I promised to get every detail ready in 2 weeks. They agreed.

Alhamdulillah,my class supported. The professor, the teachers of other department and my department appreciated.

After that,I tried doing similar things in 2nd year but didnt get a response meaning the syllabus and excursion was an issue so it didnt happen.

All along,I would take part in the Creative Writing,Poster Making competitions (told 4 friends to take part and they took part for the 1st time and won),Panel discussion on Identity of a Woman,Sports Day-organizing,practising marching, volunteering in college annual day, bengali department events(had a friend there),hosting and powerpoint presentations for our department events. I loved organizing, being among people and doing things together,Alhamdulillah.

I requested my teachers to allow me to participate and represent my department. They would encourage me. I.S.Ma’am and R.P.Ma’am were my well wishers. They would be so happy. Alhamdulillah.

Alhamdulillah, that kept me going. Also Dawah to students and professors during events, library work, break time were a boost,Alhamdulillah ( that was after completing Dawah module in Diploma from Iou.)

Since class 9,it was my desire to start cricket. Didnt happen in 10 but we played during P.E. Class…then in high school,we took part in Birla fest and we made a team and participated.

In college,we would have marching practise from
8 am so we would go a bit early and few of us would play with my bat and ball. I requested others to join me and request the head at that time. Not much interest from others. I approached our P.E.teacher..an elderly gentleman who is compassionate. He supported me.

At the end of 3 years..Alhamdulillah,Allah gave me success and we had the 1st ever Inter Stream Cricket tournament in our college. We managed to get a proper cricket setup-equipment,jerseys,team and umpires, rules.

The struggle began in 1st year-just managed Earth Day..so Allah Helped me continue with my participation and volunteering in the 3 years…atleast that kept me motivated that I wasnt just doing nothing or wasting time or not utilizing time, energy, talent. Also,I had a hard time with studies..the huge syllabus, practicals, the timing in addition to the 1.5 hours in the morning.. I knew if my grades were affected I wouldnt be allowed to participate.

The struggles were many but Allah Helped me overcome.

To my sisters, who dream big and desire to do big things, this small experience in college taught me a lot.

I know a lot of people who want to do big things, help others and bring change at high levels and I know it isnt easy.

*people will put barriers and at times, its the near and dear ones. The family wont allow etc.

*safety issues.

*you are not perfect and you want to do all this ?

*ek insaan se kuch nahi hoga.

*itna kyu khatna. Isse acha ye karo and wo karo.

*tumhe hi har kaam karna hai. Baki logon ko
karna hoga to karenge etc.

There are so many barriers..so should you give up ?

No !

What can you do ?

Keep trying. Make dua to Allah to make doing good easy for you. Allah will make way where there seems to be no way.

Things may not happen the way you wanted but it will be good,in sha Allah.

*If family offers barriers..Involve them.
You can ask the elderly for advise and help in funds and organization part .

For camps and relief, let the men in your family be in touch with the brothers.

*Initially, doing intensive work will not be easy. Start Small.

*I started with sending a good quote sms to people for a year or so. Save the sms balance and dont waste in gossip. Send motivating and encouraging quotes to a group of people.

*I started writing after class 12. I write about what I observe and experience in school,college,workplace,family,friends..scenary..anything that affects me,inspires me,changes me,makes me happy,hurts me..anything and everything !

*Then I started whatsapp groups-sharing articles -others and mine,khutbahs,quotes..audios,videos…and dawah to non muslims.

*Then the facebook pages followed by my blogs. Alhamdulillah.

*interaction with young people in college and Burooj,Alhamdulillah.

These little things helped me,gave me experiences that helped me during dawah in college.. It helps me even today,Alhamdulillah.

Dear Sisters,trust Allah.

When your intentions are good, when you trust Allah and make dua..He makes way, where there seems to be no way.

Allah has blessed us with so much and yet we dont do justice and utilize everything we have to earn His Pleasure,to obey Him.

Little has been done. There is a long way to go and so much has to be done. May Allah Help us. Ameen.

Do not lose hope.

May Allah make doing good easy for us. May Allah keep us sincere and Guide us all.Ameen.

If your intention is good,Allah will Help you and make way for you,in sha Allah.

Keep striving ! Dont give up.

My dad (who encourages and supports me in these things) puts it this way:
“Let it be a comma but never a full stop.”
